Yuru Camp | Anime Review

This review is SPOILER-FREE.

How do you feel about the outdoors? Is the idea of spending time away from the city and going on a trip to surround yourself with nature alluring to you? It sure is to me.

One outdoor activity I’ve always wanted to experience was camping. I know such an activity comes with its own inconveniences, but something about it just feels so mystic and comforting.

Yuru Camp is an anime that perfectly captures that aspect, and sometimes even goes beyond that. It portrays the coziness of camping, and at the same time offers us a cute and wholesome series.

Story

Yuru Camp follows the camping adventures of a group of high school girls. It consists of Rin, Nadeshiko, and the other members of the Outdoor Activities Club as they spend most of their vacant days sitting by a campfire, enjoying a warm meal, and absorbing the natural sceneries around them.

As a Slice Of Life, Iyashikei anime, it has an episodic plot and a slow pacing. There’s no complex storyline, nor does it have anything major going on. It is simply a laid-back show set in the outdoors for its audience to just sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Characters

The casts of the series are what makes it entertaining. Although most of them are derived from common tropes found in similar anime, their dynamic still feels somewhat new and unique. Their interactions are amusing and gives flavor to the already pleasing backdrop of the show.

Shima Rin and Kagamihara Nadeshiko seems to be the two main girls among them. Despite their opposite personalities, with Rin being more reserved and Nadeshiko being more outgoing, their friendship and bond, along with the other girls, continues to grow as their camping days goes on.

It’s fun watching them huddling over a campfire, making funny faces, traveling and exploring various campsites, and just learning to appreciate each other’s company.

Animation

One of the things Yuru Camp is known for is its calming atmosphere. It implements and combines a soft artwork and animation, gentle color scheme, and soothing soundtracks to create a serene ambiance that is apparent throughout the series.

Final Thoughts & Rating

Yuru Camp is one of the hidden gems of anime that doesn’t get enough love. It does a great job of giving its viewers a relaxing experience after each episode. And although most people may not find this kind of series appealing, it’s still worth the watch and I highly recommend it, especially if you need a breather after watching plot-heavy shows.
